The recent Andrew Sachs controversy, resulting in Brand’s resignation from BBC 2, has proved excellent foder for his latest tour. The main theme of the show is trouble, which Brand claims has followed him wherever he goes. Watching him on stage is like watching a child in a man’s body. He leaps energetically around, getting sidetracked by the simplest thing. For example, his microphone becoming entangled around a stool becomes a 5 minute skit of him dragging his entire set around the stage.

It’s clear the events of last year have affected Brand to an extent. Despite his joking, and constant referral to himself and Ross as “silly boys”, there are moments where he looks ashamed of his actions. However, these moments are quickly replaced by Brand’s vanity, and the delight he gets from being in the public eye. This is highlighted by a clip from ITV news, to which Brand sings to the theme tune “I am the news, me, I am the news, news news news!”.

As support act Mr Gee shrewdly observed, the majority of Brand’s audience are attractive females. Brand’s grasp on language (he frequently veers off into long monologues about life, women and the universe) his attire and mannerisms clearly make him attractive to women. It’s also clear that Brand adores women, and refers a few times to finding “the one”. Sometimes, Brand can overstep the mark, making lewd remarks to the more vocal/chesty audience members. but they lap up the attention, whereas if some cheeky Cockney yelled such remarks at them in the street they’d be sure to get a slap.

Scandalous is frank. Watching it gives you the impression you’re watching Brand on a journey of self-evaluation. There are many sides to Brand, and Shameless is Brand looking at himself, the mayhem he wreaks, the offence he calls and him appealing to the audience for sympathy, forgiveness almost. Love him or hate him, Shameless is one hell of a show.

4/5

Juno.

I've been wanting to see Juno since it came out, after hearing nothing but positive reviews. And I'm pleased to say, it didn't disappoint.

Unlike some films that get hyped up by the media, 'Juno' is a rare example of a typical 'teen flick' appealing to a mass audience. Ellen Page is fantastic, using her natural wit and charm to portray boyish Juno MacGuff. Supporting actress Olivia Thirlby also showcases new American talent, coming out with some of the funniest lines in the film.

Personally, I've never been a fan of Jennifer Garner, but I have to admit her role in 'Juno' is fantastic. Her portrayal of long suffering Vanessa is one of the highlights of the film, and her acting results in a very emotional ending.

Michael Cera is utterly adorable in this film, and he and Page have a chemistry which lights up the screen and adds to the emotional feeling of the story. The two manage to portray teenage love without making it 'soppy' and frankly irritating.
A brilliantly directed, very likeable film.

introduction.

My name is Amy.
